Society for Promotion of Horticulture (SPH)

Society for Promotion of Horticulture (SPH) was started on 20th Sept 2005 at Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bangalore with 16 patrons and 146 founder life members and it was registered on 21.01.2006 under Karnataka Societies
Registration Act, 1960

Society for promotion of Horticulture publishes peer reviewed scientific journal, ‘Journal of Horticultural Sciences’ (JHS) biannually since June 2006 focusing on articles, research papers and short communications of both basic and applied aspect of original research in all branches of horticulture and other cognate disciplines. To apprise the scientists and all those who are interested in horticulture about recent scientific advancement and extension findings is the journal’s goal.

The society organizes International and National conferences in horticulture sciences and had instituted Smt Annie Shikamany biennial award for the best research paper in the field of horticulture published in JHS, Student Travel Grant for presenting the papers in international conferences/symposia/workshops abroad and Dr. G. S. Randhawa Best Thesis award.

Present Office Bearer's

Objectives

    • To advance the scientific principles and practices into horticulture and to promote the profession of horticultural sciences (fruits, vegetables, ornamental crops, medicinal and aromatic crops, tuber crops including potato, plantation crops, spices, cashew, cocoa, etc.)
    • To provide scientific and technical advice to government and industry organizations engaged in regulating horticultural trade.
    • To promote close relationship with the International Society for Horticultural Sciences and other related societies both national and international in the field of horticulture.
    • To publish a Journal in English called ‘Journal of Horticultural Sciences’. This shall include original research papers on any aspect of horticulture.
    • To provide a medium for the exchange, discussion and dissemination of current development in the field of horticultural sciences by holding meetings, Symposia, etc.
    • To publish catalogues, bibliographies, checklists, monographs, books, reviews, etc, in the field of horticultural science.
    • To recognize the contribution of outstanding researchers all aspects of horticultural science and to institute suitable annual or biennial awards.
    • The benefits of the Society shall be open to all irrespective of caste, creed or religion, whose interests comply with the objects of the society.
